PX Spotlight: Getting to know Sophie Findlay, Senior Resourcing Consultant
As Peopleconnexion continues to grow and welcome talented new staff, we continue our series introducing our newest team members to our clients, candidates and contractors.
As a Senior Resourcing Consultant, Sophie works closely with our Brisbane team to identify and connect with engineering candidates in the transportation and infrastructure sectors.
From the outset, Sophie has impressed with her sourcing expertise and reputation as a fast-learner. She has quickly become known in the Peopleconnexion office for her razor-sharp wit and willingness to take on any challenge. Read on to get to know why Sophie is one to watch in the engineering recruitment space.
PX: How did you first get into recruitment?
Sophie: Previously, I worked across professional, IT and technical recruitment in a recruiting-resourcing capacity. It’s a funny story ? I actually started out in an administration position. I was brought in for this audit focused on document control and ended up sidestepping into recruitment/resourcing just a few weeks in. It turns out the director had been giving me these little tests along the way to see if I could cut it in a resourcing position ? and I passed!
Coming from a science background, the research aspect sort of came naturally and I was drawn to the diverse nature of the job. No two days are ever the same.
In recruitment, things just change in the blink of an eye.
PX: How would you sum up your approach to recruitment? What’s your ‘secret sauce??
Every role is so different, so your approach might be different depending on the kind of professional you’re looking for and who the client is. What I would say is ? always be prepared, and never get complacent.
PX: Outside of recruitment, what are you passionate about?
Definitely photography. I got my camera in 2015, so I’ve been building my knowledge since then. At the time, I was working so hard so I could put my energy into researching as much as I could about photography. I?d take home these giant piles of technical guides so I could learn as much as possible.
PX: When you’re not in the office, where can we find you?
Probably climbing a mountain. My favourites are Mt Tibrogargan and Mt Beerwah. Otherwise, I?ll be somewhere like Noosa National Park ? I love it up there.
PX: Top piece of advice for candidates?
Just to be honest, and be true to yourself.
