Welcoming David: Our Newest Resource Consultant
We’re super excited to introduce our newest team member, David, who has joined us as a Resource Consultant. David’s journey, both professionally and personally, is nothing short of inspiring. Here’s a glimpse into his story.
From Vet Work to Recruitment: David’s Journey
David’s love for animals saw him delve into veterinary work as a teenager. He also spent significant time in the family technology business in Colombia for over five years. David then successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, which took him into the beautiful rose fields in Columbia where he worked his way up to a Production Manager for the Rose farm. He then furthered his environmental studies and completed postgraduate studies in Soil and Tropics.
Fast-forward to 2019, David had decided his next goal was to learn fluent English, and what better place than to move to Australia. One year later, David found himself in a new country and new culture with minimal English when COVID hit. David persevered through the pandemic, a time where Australia saw majority of its migrants forced to flee back home. David found his resilience through this time, working in cleaning, hospitality and even pet sitting and walking. Not only that, David continued to study and in 2022, successfully completed three diplomas in Leadership and Management (Advanced), Management and Business & Marketing.
After years of his English studies, David then took up a position with a large recruitment firm as a scribe where he found himself also having the opportunity to prepare and guide candidates throughout the interview process. David believes this is where his understanding for recruitment and his passion for this field began. Talking to us, David explained how the first approach with a candidate is so impactful and being able to show empathy and understanding of the vulnerabilities candidates can go through in the job hunting process – having been in those shoes himself. He wanted to be a person who could ensure people feel seen and are valued no matter the outcome. “It’s such a vulnerable time for people, as they can leave a room feeling as though their potential hasn’t been seen, but they know their potential, and if I can be that person that is there to just ask how are you, then that’s a privilege for me”.
Moments and Memories
We asked David what one of his fondest memories has been in his career. While having many, his proudest memory involves his time in the Australian Hospitality industry. Again through the pandemic, with his challenges in English, he began as a dishwasher in a popular restaurant but in a short time, his Manager asked him to be the Assistant Manager which David to this day, is incredibly humbled and grateful for. However, he extended this memory to today, where he feels most proud, being able to step into the white-collar space and learn the ropes of a new industry. A testament to how far he has come.
Challenges Along the Way
For David, he’s greatest challenge has been adapting to a new culture, learning English, and finding his place in Australia. However, he triumphed over these challenges, finding not just a new language but also a new version of himself and a new-found freedom. Nestled on the sunny Gold Coast, David now has his place to call home with two big beautiful Aussie dogs – a Kelpie and a Cattle Dog.
The Recruiter’s Mindset
David believes that everything connects in life. His drive and willingness to learn set him up for success in his role as a resource consultant. He talked to us about the significance of mindset over mere knowledge and always pushing to be better. Being a culture of lifelong learners, David couldn’t have stepped into a better place to be supported in his learning journey.
What David Brings to the Team
David’s infectious happiness is something he hopes will resonate within the team. He loves teamwork and emphasises collaboration over competition. With a deep-seated passion for everything he does, David aims to bring his tenacity and dedication to the workplace.
