Achieve Your Goals in 2019: How to Create a Dream Board

With the end of January in sight, it’s time to check in on how you’re tracking on your New Year’s Resolutions.

Are you finding ways to upskill yourself?

Did you really join the gym?

Have those visions of becoming an early riser been dashed by the lure of the snooze button?

Even if you’re not a believer in New Year’s resolutions, there’s no doubting the power of setting goals and sticking to them.

According to modern research, one of the most powerful ways to achieve your goals is through the power of visualisation. Think about it, there’s a reason that sports stars visualise themselves standing on the podium or crossing the finish line with a personal best.

With this in mind, the Peopleconnexion team have spent the last week building our dream boards ? a visual interpretation of our goals for the year.

What’s a dream board?

A dream board is a collection of images, sayings and symbols that help you to visualise your goals. It’s intended to be placed somewhere where you will look at it multiple times a day to inspire you and remind you of why you’re doing what you’re doing.

You can put it on the bathroom mirror, on the back of the toilet door or next to your desk at work ? anywhere where you?ll see it all the time.

How to create your dream board

To create your own dream board, the first thing you?ll need is a list of 3 ? 4 goals from any area of your life. These could be in the areas of:

  • Career
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Finance
  • Health
  • Community
  • Spirituality
  • Personal development

Once you’ve decided on those goals, find images or sayings that reflect those goals and assemble them in a collage. If you’re building yours on the computer, here’s a photo collage site you can use to help you along: https://www.befunky.com/create/collage/

Once you’re happy with the layout and images, make sure to save it as your screensaver on your computer or print it out and stick it somewhere visible.

Below is an example of a dream board from our Communication Consultant, Marnie. Her goals are all around furthering her studies/learning new skills, leading a healthier lifestyle and working towards her honeymoon:

Dream boards are one of our favourite goal setting exercises, and something we’ve been doing as a team for years. We’ve experienced how effective dream boards can be in achieving our goals and are always happy to share the results!

If you’re creating a dream board, we?d love to see it and hear how you’re going throughout the year ? please feel free to message us on LinkedIn or get in touch at www.peopleconnexion.com/contact-us
