Five Years On: Q&A With Our First Placement
This year, we?re celebrating a very special milestone at Peopleconnexion PNG… we are turning five!
One of the true joys of celebrating these five years is seeing the successes of our candidates years down the track.
That brings us to our journey with Sanga Palu, Technical Services Laboratory Manager for Monier Limited.
Sanga was among our very first placements in Papua New Guinea after working with me through the Peopleconnexion PNG process and taking the plunge to relocate from Dalby, Australia. We had the opportunity to work with Sanga after identifying him for the role, coaching him for interviews and being a sounding board through the negotiation process before he was placed in Port Moresby just a short time later.
For anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Sanga, the reasons for his success are clear ? he lights up a room with his infectious laughter, impresses with his technical knowledge and approaches life with a refreshingly positive attitude.
As 2019 marks Sanga’s fifth year with Monier (an incredible achievement by all counts!), our team caught up with the man himself to hear about his journey in this time. Here’s the excerpt from that interview:
On that first engagement with Peopleconnexion PNG:
?My first introduction was when Fraser first reached out to me because of my fit with the role – he knows his stuff!
I was still working in Australia at the time and he saw my profile on LinkedIn – I think that’s how he found me. From there, he contacted me directly.
Fraser being the professional he is was really quick with how we worked with me. He moved my CV to a more professional level and sorted everything out really quickly.
But for me, I knew he approached it in a way that it wasn’t just about me getting the job or placing me ? it was about helping me.?
On his biggest highlights over the past five years at Monier:
Everything! For me, being in a foreign country ? everything I do is a highlight.
You?re always working to give your best, and it’s so exciting to be involved in major projects ? from the airport upgrades, sewage system upgrade, road construction, high rise buildings and more, there’s been so many things and projects we’ve been involved in. For me, I’ve been involved in construction materials supply, making sure our Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) systems are carried out in accordance to standards and best practice.
I’ve really enjoyed helping them (Monier) to improve processes in terms of QC & QA ? so I?m very, very happy with that.?
What are some of the biggest things you’ve learned over those five years?
‘so many things.
Being a civil engineer myself, I guess one of the biggest things was learning to work with different construction materials – concrete pipes, masonry products, precast, quarry products, plastic tanks, ready-mix concrete, asphalts, etc.
I come from a background of construction materials testing laboratory so I?m working with new materials and expanding my technical understanding to work on different projects I’ve never been involved with before.?
On working with our team:
?Professionalism is the biggest thing that stands out for me.?
?Not only that, but for me ? my friendship with Fraser over the years.. it makes me feel like a bro, like part of the family.
We?re still in contact even now? he?ll catch up to see ?How are you going? How are things?? Even every time he comes over we meet up for a beer and catch up. So that’s something special.
I think you guys are competent, professional and you really know your stuff. You seem to find the right people and the best people to get the job done and I think that’s what makes the difference.
I highly recommend you guys.?
Check out this before and after we dug up from the archives.. 2015 and 2019 when we visited Sanga to say congratulations with a certificate and vouchers:
