INCREASE WORKFORCE ENGAGEMENT IN 2021
“Sometimes we get the sense that something is missing, and we just can’t put our finger on it. Our employees are highly talented, they understand what is required, they are just not firing on all cylinders.?
I had a meeting with a client towards the end of 2020, in spite of Covid19, their business had had a good year. Their business model had shifted to more remote work; however, they were pretty used to virtual teams, across geographies. They intuitively knew that there were pockets of dissatisfied staff and potentially a few grumbles, but they were unable to identify the areas of highest engagement in the business and areas that led to actively disengaged employees. More importantly, this meant that the business was unable to take deliberate steps to increase engagement and have a baseline measure so that they could qualify improvements.
So what precisely is employee engagement?
Employee engagement is a term that refers to the level of commitment, passion, and loyalty employees feel towards their employer. When an employee’s personal and professional goals align with an organisation’s goals and vision, that employee is likely to be highly engaged in the workplace. Engaged employees are generally more motivated, care more and this shows in their performance.
However, despite the apparent importance of employee engagement, many employees these days are still somewhat disengaged at work. According to a relatively recent Gallup poll, only 33 percent of employees in the United States are highly engaged at work.
This implies that any companies are not maximising their potential, as their employees are not 100% aligned, with heart and mind, to the business’s goals.
So what can you do about it? How can you significantly improve employee engagement, and potentially overhaul your company culture for the better?
To go about improving employee engagement, in order to drive high performance, you firstly need to identify what your engagement levels are within the organisation. Employee Engagement Surveys are designed to measure and assess how motivated and engaged your employees are to perform their best at work each day. From these surveys, you can gain insight into employees? thoughts and attitudes towards their work and the overall environment. By measuring a baseline of employee engagement, you are able to make informed decisions, develop initiatives and take deliberate steps in addressing areas that can be improved.
Engagement surveys are much more than just asking questions.
