PNG Business Visa Moratorium Ending

PNG Business Visa Moratorium Ending

It’s (almost) official ? the moratorium on Papua New Guinea’s business visas is finally ending.

At a business breakfast last week, PNG Prime Minister Peter O?Neill said the Government would expedite the end of the moratorium on multiple-entry business visas after stronger internal measures were developed to prevent misuse.

This move comes after bold opposition about the moratorium from the business community, who have cited the adverse impact the decision has made on doing business in Papua New Guinea.

Personally, myself and other members of the Peopleconnexion team have experienced frustrations as professionals who travel to the country on a regular basis. Not having the business visa facility has caused a huge headache for us, in addition to candidates travelling for interview and executives travelling for meetings. I can see how the extra cost and effort involved in getting to PNG may be continuing to cause difficulties for the business community. s

As of yet, the Government has not publicised a deadline for the lift of the moratorium, so stay tuned. We look forward to seeing positive change and sustainable management of the business visa facility soon.
