PNG Graduates on the Rise

PNG Graduates on the Rise

As a student myself, I wish I had been given the insights, skills and knowledge that are now accessible to me working in the HR and Recruitment industry.

I thought that it would be a great opportunity to share some behaviours that as a new graduate you can implement, to ensure your success in the job-hunting jungle.

The Papua New Guinean government has just announced that they will be injecting k60 million into the education sector, for students looking to take advantage of the Higher Education Loan Programme (HELP) in the country.

This allows students to take advantage of a 0% educational loan subsidised by the government, to pay for their tertiary education. Australia and New Zealand have offered similar services to boost their higher education rates, with great success. The student loan is payed back after successful completion of the qualification, and after secure employment has been made.

This has come after an announcement from Prime Minister Marape, stating that PNG will be investing into their future by encouraging further education and increasing its funding.

As the country is taking action to invest into it’s future through education, I thought it would be valuable to share some techniques that graduates can use, to stand out in the competitive job market.

It is important to understand your strengths and weaknesses and know how to effectively market yourself to future employers, especially when in interview scenarios. The job market is super competitive and to secure the great opportunities, you need to be able to differentiate yourself from the rest of the candidates.

If you take on what we refer to as the ?whole person approach? you are not looking at yourself as an individual, a skill, or a qualification but rather a combination of all your parts that make you unique.

By using this approach and applying the six elements of the approach to yourself personally, you will be able to define your stand out points of difference.

This will allow you to then effectively structure a plan that highlights your key drivers or ?brand you? to your employer.

Take the time to self-reflect and evaluate your most positive attributes for each section, it will make you feel a lot more confident in your abilities and show you which areas are your strongest assets.
