We are thrilled to introduce Liezl, our newest recruitment consultant joining our Peopleconnexion PNG team in our cozy Gold Coast office.
Liezl, originally from South Africa, moved to New Zealand in 2000, and landed in Australia in 2017 where she has been ever since. Liezl has spent a large part of her career as a Dental Nurse, but following COVID-19, like many others, decided it was time for a career change.
In 2022, Liezl embarked on her recruitment journey as a resourcer when she was offered an opportunity on the Gold Coast which was right place, right time. Evidently so, Liezl quickly rose to the role of recruitment consultant. Originally specialising in nursing, hospitality, and administration within aged care facilities in Sydney, Liezl’s dedication was evident as she expanded her desk into Queensland, building her client base from the bottom up. This is where Liezl developed her passion and expertise in business development and client engagement. She particularly loves the in-person interactions the field can present. Something which our fellow experienced generations of recruiters and sales-professionals can attest to – pounding the pavement and winning business from the ol’ fashion door knocking tactic!
Liezl finds immense satisfaction in client satisfaction and the ability to provide people with meaningful work opportunities. Transitioning from larger agencies to a role where she can see the direct impact her work has made on both candidates and clients alike, Liezl finds a deeply rewarding experience in the field of recruitment. It is the sincere appreciation and acknowledgement from those she works with which fuels her passion and drive.
We asked Liezl what she believes some of the key elements of success are in this role:
“Understanding the importance of, well…understanding! Understanding the diverse needs of both candidates and clients, listening attentively, and comprehensively grasping the bigger picture to ensure successful experiences for all parties. Often, we listen but we don’t really ‘hear’ what people are saying. This is one thing which I believe is of great importance, listening to understand”.
We also asked about what Liezl is looking forward to the most in her new role with us:
“I am probably most excited about the prospect of understanding a new culture in PNG. I am big on culture and understanding new cultures. I was also drawn to the prospect of expanding my portfolio. I obviously had experience in the field of nursing and medical, and I have also dabbled in Mining, Oil and Gas offshore placements, but this will be an entirely new vertical for me to step into and really own”.
Liezl also has a passion for the field of HR due to the impact the industry can have on working professionals. She has always been guided by the desire to make meaningful differences whether it is in equality, the benefit which comes with compliance and structured ways of working or just the
ability to help professionals perusing a career.
Fun Facts About Liezl:
Beyond her professional endeavours, Liezl delights in baking her signature honey-based Bee sting cake, indulging in her love for singing, cooking up South African delicacies for friends such as Briyani, Babotie and Koe’sisters (type of dounut with spices and coconut), and exploring the great outdoors. Although, since living in Queensland, Liezl has had to master the balance of ‘getting lost in the surrounding environments’ meditative state on her walks, with an extreme awareness of what deadly creature could slither out of the bushes at any point! Liezl is also a big sports fan, and loves to watch the cricket, rugby, track and field, tennis and swimming!
Liezl’s vibrant energy and love for everything colour (as we can see in her vibrant blue suit in the office!) promises to infuse our Gold Coast team with enthusiasm and positivity. We extend a warm welcome to Liezl and eagerly anticipate the positive contributions she will make to our team at Peopleconnexion. Welcome aboard, Liezl!
